Slurry Blast

Slurry Blast

Slurry Blasting is a patented multi-function, metal treating process using steel abrasive combined with a water-based neutral cleaner. This heated slurry is propelled at high velocity by a cabinet mounted rotary blast head to simultaneously blast clean and wash metal components. This process combines five operations into One Efficient, Economical Step:

  • De-grease/de-oil
  • De-scale/blast clean
  • Shot Peen
  • Rust Inhibit
  • Iron Phosphate

Slurry Blast™ machines are built to operate in either continuous or batch type operations.

Principles of Operation

The spent slurry returns to a closed loop Hydraulic Classifier where it is recycled and separated into its 3 components - shot, liquid, sludge. A system of adjustable weirs and baffles separates the reusable abrasive from the liquid as it flows through the classifier. The larger sized waste particles settle in a separation area and are removed by a Sludge Ejection System.

Accumulated oils, in the liquid reservoir, are removed by an automatic Oil Skimming Device . A Liquid Controls Package incorporating control valves, level switch, gas or electric liquid heating elements and thermostats monitors the liquid level, temperature and process flow.

Individual valves control liquid flow for either blasting or washing operations. An Inline Filter removes micronic particles from the Neutral Cleaner liquid supplied to the pumps.

System Configuration

Examples of standard machine configurations are: Rotary Tables, Batch Tumblers, Spinner Hangers, Monorail Units, Multi-Table, and Wire Mesh Belt Tunnel Systems. This equipment is designed and built around the rugged operating conditions found in Metal Processing Technologies' full line of Conventional Shot Blasting and Peening Machinery.
